What does the PTO do?

The PTA Executive Board governs allocation of PTA funds, and is made up of devoted parents who lead PTA efforts. The Exec Board program Liaisons oversee the incredible DLS room parents, who connect to all the volunteers in the classroom and support each of the DLS teachers. Our School Support Officers host teacher appreciation efforts throughout the year, offering tangible thanks for DLS’s hard working staff. The Fundraising Officers this year are spearheading an annual giving campaign that will raise monies for the many teaching assistants in the classroom, expensive and essential to our immersion model.

With resources this year the PTA will support community events, so we have a chance to play, exercise, eat and laugh with one another outside the academic environment. This summer the PTA hosted playdates for new DLS families. Throughout the year the PTA will support the school's parent education nights. The PTA will continue to lead outreach initiatives supporting our families in need, so that all children can succeed at DLS regardless of their economic background. If you'd like the PTA Executive Board to financially support a project you are heading that fits in with the mission of the PTA, please email the PTA President: president@dlspta.org.

In addition the PTA supports the efforts of many of DLS’s amazing parents. Parents volunteer to help with DLS cultural events, the community garden, school yearbook, the annual Art Show, and Spirit Wear. Parents facilitate a student Green Team, produce Chinese New Year and Fiesta Hispánica, take part in supporting Transportation Safety, Bike to School Day, and other events and activities. Our biggest annual fundraiser, the Night Market, is spearheaded by parents and supported by the PTA. Volunteers are in the lunchrooms and on the playgrounds, and offer Administrative Support. If you are organizing an event that needs the support of parent volunteers, please let the PTA Executive Board's Volunteer Coordinators know how to help you: volunteers@dlspta.org.
