Welcome! The mission of the PTA is to improve the education provided to DLS students by supporting the school and its activities. The PTA helps to fund a wish list of items from the school as well as many additional activities that make our school such a wonderful place. The success of the PTA is directly linked to the participation of parents, so we strongly encourage everyone to be involved this year.

When you join the DLS PTA with your annual $15 fee, you make great events like Night Market and Kickball Tournament possible. Without insurance, purchased with PTA membership fee funds, fun PTA events cannot take place.

How do I get Involved?

The PTA is a volunteer-driven organization. There are many ways to be involved. There are activities that can accommodate any schedule and skill set. Each family is asked to volunteer 15 hours every school year.

Click here to learn more. Joining the PTA counts as one hour - get started here!

What do you get when you join the DLS PTA with your annual $15 fee? Membership in a community dedicated to your child’s education and growth. Support the DLS PTA, the Colorado PTA, and your child’s community by signing up online here.

Please Volunteer - 15 hours per year

Volunteers Needed:
  • Help with the DLS Recycling and Compost Contest - Click here to sign up.

  • Middle School Dance Chaperones - Thursday, April 27 6-8pm We need two-three chaperones for the middle school dance. Please email volunteers@dlspta.org if interested.

  • Art Show Volunteers - Friday, April 21 4-7pm Art Show - We need several volunteers for the Art Show. Look for a sign up coming out after Spring Break, or email volunteers@dlspta.org to get first dibs on the spots!

  • East Campus Lunch Room Helpers - The kids at East Campus need some further instruction on the art of disposing their lunch. We could use a volunteer for each lunch shift to help kids compost, recycle, and throw away - and learn a little about their impact to the Earth. It is also a great way to see your kid during the school day! Sign up here.

  • Ongoing:  EAST Science Room Supply Clean Up - The middle school science teacher needs ongoing help keeping the science room supplies in order. This is a task that will occur weekly. We'd love volunteers that could help with this on a regular basis. The work can be done at home - it just requires picking up the dirty supplies at East and returning them the next morning. Sign up here.

  • We need volunteers for general help at both campuses. Stay tuned for sign-up opportunities, visit the Volunteering page for more information, or please email volunteers@dlspta.org.
Please send an email to volunteers@dlspta.org if you are interested in other volunteer opportunities.

Save those Donations for Red Apple Recycling - Spring Drive Approaching!

You know that little red schoolhouse in front of DLS East? That belongs to Red Apple Recycling, an organization that pays us by the pound based on our donations. We recently learned that the regular rate (not during a drive) is 4 cents/pound, whereas the rate during the Fall and Spring Clothing Drives is 10 cents/pound.

The other advantage of the Fall and Spring Drives is that DLS competes for grant funds - the top three pound-earners during the drive time receive an additional $750, $500, and $250 on top of the 10 cents/pound.

With that, if you are able to, please save your donations for the drive times to maximize your donation to DLS.

During the Fall Clothing Drive, we collected 896 pounds of donations (raising $89.60 for DLS), and the top three earners were in the 1,750 to 2,000 range. We can beat that! The Spring Clothing Drive is currently being scheduled for late March or April - stay tuned for details, and thank you again for your donations!

Remember, you can also take toys and baby gear that are in better shape to Back on the Rack, where 40% of the sale of those toys directly benefits DLS.

Corporate Matching

More than 15,000 employers will match employee donations – does yours? So far this year more than $2,500 has been donated by Janus and Google Benevity – huge thank yous to both the corporations and their generous employees!

If your corporation offers matching funds, please direct the funds to the Denver Language School PTA, not to the school itself, to ensure the school actually receives the matched funds. Any questions or issues with the process? Contact treasurer@dlspta.org.

Have You Donated to the Staff Gift Fund Yet?

Show your appreciation for those who dedicate themselves to your child’s future! Please contribute to the Staff Gift Fund. We request each family donate $50 to the fund, but welcome contributions of any size.   We recognize staff at Chinese New Year, winter holidays, Fiesta Hispanica, and at the end of the year.

Please either submit your donation online or send a check made out to DLS PTA to school in your child’s Friday Folder. Please note on your check that the money is for the Gift Fund.

Please Save Your Box Tops for Education

Each pink box top, found on many products, is worth 10 cents when clipped and turned into the school. It adds up quickly; last year, Judit Varga coordinated the school’s efforts and raised $1,200. The goal is to earn $1,400 this year. Students can deposit box tops in collection boxes in their classrooms.

There will be three competitions to collect the most box tops this year, each with surprise rewards, so start saving them now! Learn more about the program and participating products at BTFE.com. Thank You Volunteers!!!

What a way to kick start the school year! Because of your dedication and hard work, our school succeeded in putting on great activities like the Night Market, field trips, Halloween parties, Skate City and teacher lunches; our school runs smoothly thanks to our Lunch Helpers, Arrival/Dismissal volunteers & Room Parents.

We recorded around 600 hours of volunteer hours in the past 2 months. Remember to record your volunteer hours in the Volunteer Binders at both campuses, with your Room Parents and/or through VolunteerSpot.

Thank you so much for your commitment of time and energy to our school!

The DLS PTA supports a wide range of projects and activities to benefit the school community and our students.

For October 21 we highlight Kindles for classrooms.
In the spring, the PTA purchased 6 Kindles for each K-5 classroom. All sorts of apps have been loaded on them for math & science instruction as well as chapter books in Spanish as well as iChinese readers for the Mandarin classes.
