Welcome! The mission of the PTA is to improve the education provided to DLS students by supporting the school and its activities. The PTA helps to fund a wish list of items from the school as well as many additional activities that make our school such a wonderful place. The success of the PTA is directly linked to the participation of parents, so we strongly encourage everyone to be involved this year.

When you join the DLS PTA with your annual $15 fee, you make great events like Night Market and Kickball Tournament possible. Without insurance, purchased with PTA membership fee funds, fun PTA events cannot take place.

How do I get Involved?

The PTA is a volunteer-driven organization. There are many ways to be involved. There are activities that can accommodate any schedule and skill set. Each family is asked to volunteer 15 hours every school year.
Click here to learn more. Joining the PTA counts as one hour - get started here!

What do you get when you join the DLS PTA with your annual $15 fee? Membership in a community dedicated to your child’s education and growth. Support the DLS PTA, the Colorado PTA, and your child’s community by signing up online here.

Please Volunteer - 15 hours per year

Volunteers Needed:
  • Feb 22 - Class Picture Day - Help the photographer take great class pictures. Sign up here.

  • Feb 24 - Fiesta Hispánica - Help us pull off a fabulous event! Mandarin Parents - please consider helping during the show to enable our Spanish Parents to focus on the show; we had several Spanish parents volunteer at Chinese New Year. Sign up here.
  • Feb 27-Mar 3 - East Campus - Book Fair - Please help us sell books at our book fair. Sign up here.

  • East Campus Lunch Room Helpers - The kids at East Campus need some further instruction on the art of disposing their lunch. We could use a volunteer for each lunch shift to help kids compost, recycle, and throw away - and learn a little about their impact to the Earth. It is also a great way to see your kid during the school day! Sign up here.

  • Ongoing:  EAST Science Room Supply Clean Up - The middle school science teacher needs ongoing help keeping the science room supplies in order. This is a task that will occur weekly. We'd love volunteers that could help with this on a regular basis. The work can be done at home - it just requires picking up the dirty supplies at East and returning them the next morning. Sign up here.

  • We need volunteers for general help at both campuses. Stay tuned for sign-up opportunities, visit the Volunteering page for more information, or please email volunteers@dlspta.org.
Please send an email to volunteers@dlspta.org if you are interested in other volunteer opportunities.

If your corporation offers matching funds, please direct the funds to the Denver Language School PTA, not to the school itself, to ensure the school actually receives the matched funds. Any questions or issues with the process? Contact treasurer@dlspta.org.

NEW: Refugee Art Supply Thank You

From DLS Staff: Thank You for the Fitbits!

DLS staff made a thank you video with photos of them using their new Fitbits - they love them! Watch the video here.

Thank You Volunteers!!!

What a way to kick start the school year! Because of your dedication and hard work, our school succeeded in putting on great activities like the Night Market, field trips, Halloween parties, Skate City and teacher lunches; our school runs smoothly thanks to our Lunch Helpers, Arrival/Dismissal volunteers & Room Parents.

We recorded around 600 hours of volunteer hours in the past 2 months. Remember to record your volunteer hours in the Volunteer Binders at both campuses, with your Room Parents and/or through VolunteerSpot.

Thank you so much for your commitment of time and energy to our school!

The DLS PTA supports a wide range of projects and activities to benefit the school community and our students.

For October 21 we highlight Kindles for classrooms.
In the spring, the PTA purchased 6 Kindles for each K-5 classroom. All sorts of apps have been loaded on them for math & science instruction as well as chapter books in Spanish as well as iChinese readers for the Mandarin classes.

For October 14 we highlight Destination Imagination.

Destination Imagination is a non-profit organization primarily run by volunteers, whose mission is to prepare kids to be the innovators of the future. Destination Imagination teams are comprised of 2-7 members. Each team finds solutions to two separate types of challenges: team challenges and instant challenges. They present their solutions to appraisers in tournament-style settings. Students combine the arts, sciences and technology to develop solutions while learning 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), stepping outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, and building on their unique strengths.

Last year, the DLS PTA contributed towards the cost of travel for our team that qualified for the Global Finals in Knoxville, TN. There were 17,000 attendees from 21 countries. DLS placed 5th out of 98 teams in the Instant Challenge and tied for 28th in the Team Challenge.

We need more parent volunteers to grow our program to allow more students to participate.  Over the last 4 years, DLS has had 1-2 teams, but we would like to expand this great opportunity. If you are interested in becoming a Team Manager, please contact Dawn at murphy1300@gmail.com or Amy at amybramlet@hotmail.com.

For September 30 we highlight Middle School Sports.

In 2015, the PTA contributed $13,000 to support middle school sports. These funds went to pay coaches, league fees, referee fees, transportation fees and some uniforms that will be reused in future years. Fall sports that were supported include flag football, volleyball & cross country.

The DLS Cross Country team ran its first race of the year last Friday in northwest Denver. Both the girls and boys teams ran well and will be back on the starting line again this Friday for another race!

For September 23 we highlight Middle School Robotics.
Last year, the PTA supported the middle school Robotic electives by funding robotics kits for the school. Both courses, Robotics I and II have been very popular with the students. Students work hands-on in teams to design, build, program and document their progress. Topics may include motor control, gear ratios, torque, friction, sensors, timing, program loops, logic gates, decision-making, timing sequences, propulsion systems, and binary number systems.

For September 16 we highlight Chess Club.

About 120 DLS kids of every skill level play on the DLS Chess Team each year, coached by 20 parents, in perhaps the largest team in the Denver region. Each Wednesday, the kids learn the royal game, share chess lore and develop good sportsmanship as members of a team. Many students compete at regional and state tournaments in individual and team events. Last year, the DLS chess team took first place in all divisions in which it competed in 8 regional Colorado Masters Scholastic Chess tournaments and second place in both its divisions in the Colorado State Scholastic Chess Tournament.

Fifteen of our most dedicated chess players qualified for, and attended, the International Youth Chess Festival and Tournament in Las Vegas this past summer. Financial support from the DLS PTA enabled two outstanding children to compete in this tournament who otherwise would not have been able to do so. With their important contributions, the DLS Chess Team took home a fifth place trophy in the K-3 division on an international stage and made fond memories to last a lifetime. Our deepest heartfelt thanks go out to the PTA for making this trip possible for these youths and for helping make DLS the wonderful community it is. GO DLS DOLPHINS!
