Welcome! The mission of the PTO is to improve the education provided to DLS students by supporting the school and its activities. The PTO helps to fund a wish list of items from the school as well as many additional activities that make our school such a wonderful place. The success of the PTO is directly linked to the participation of parents, so we strongly encourage everyone to be involved each year.

How do I get Involved?

The PTO is a volunteer-driven organization. There are many ways to be involved. There are activities that can accommodate any schedule and skill set. Each family is asked to volunteer 15 hours every school year.

Please volunteer!

Parent involvement at DLS school is the key to making our school the best it can be. Each family at DLS is required to volunteer a minimum of 15 hours per year. Start volunteering now to be sure you reach this requirement.

  • Moving Help Needed.

Since DLS is beginning construction of the 5th grade wing right after school ends, the Move Team is requesting volunteers for two projects:

    • June 4th-June 6th.  They need support moving some furniture and boxes from the 5th Grade wing at East Campus into the cafeteria.
    • June 11th-15th, Caleb needs help removing the coat hooks in the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms at West Campus. (Bolts in the wall. If you have ratchet sets, etc. it's a plus!)

If you can help with either of these tasks, please email Caleb: caleb@denverlanguageschool.org.

  • Night Market Coordinators for Fall 2018. We are seeking new volunteers to help organize and coordinate our 2018 Night Market coming this Fall. Whatever your skill set, we can use it! Email Amanda at fundraising@dlspta.org to get involved and/or to get more information.

NEW: Staff Appreciation a Success Thanks to DLS Community

Our sincerest thanks for your generous donations to our staff appreciation week events.  Because of the overwhelming response by our wonderful parent community, the PTA School Support team was able to stretch our budget and provide an entire week’s worth of treats for our wonderful teachers and staff! Our DLS community provided a breakfast, 2 different catered lunches, snacks/refreshments throughout the week, boba tea, and a happy hour event, not to mention all the marvelous cards and flowers! Needless to say, our teachers and staff felt very appreciated and you were all a big part of that. THANK YOU!

If you are interested in being a part of the school support team at either campus next year, please contact schoolsupport@dlspto.org.

UPDATED: Looking for Parent Leaders for Next Year

There are still a few open leadership positions for the next school year, and we’re also looking for Room Parents to work more closely with their class and teachers next year.

Why become a parent leader?

  • Make a difference in our kids’ education and help support our teachers and staff.

There are lots of ways to be involved as a parent leader at DLS, whether you’re looking for a one-time, short-term, or longer-term commitment. You can be involved from the comfort of your own home, in and with your kiddo’s classroom, and in and around our DLS and greater communities.

Currently, the PTO is looking for the following board members and potential liaisons (1-2 year commitment):

  • School Support at Gilpin (1 person) to work with the fabulous Adam Tsai and with Whiteman School Support School Support officers are responsible for providing meals to our teachers during parent-teacher conferences, professional days, and for coordinating meals and other activities for Staff Appreciation Week in May.

  • School Support at Whiteman (1 person) to work with the fabulous Lucy Quintero and to coordinate with Gilpin School Support - see description above.

  • DLS Dads lead (1-2 people, not a board position)

  • Middle School International Trips liaison (1-2 people who have kids going on a trip)

We’re also looking for some event/project leads and committee members (shorter time commitment):

We look forward to working with you next year!

UPDATED: The DLS Dragon Boat Team Needs a Drummer-in-Training

Do you have good rhythm? Do you enjoy leading a team? Along with new paddlers, the DLS Dragon Boat Team is looking for a drummer-in-training. No experience necessary! As drummer, you encourage the team, help set the rhythm of the race and have the best view in the house - all without breaking a sweat. You should be at ease on the water. And you should be comfortable being loud - so the paddlers in the way back of the boat can hear you in the middle of the race. Our current drummer is “graduating” soon and will provide training for the next drummer during this season’s practices and race days.

We're also still looking for paddlers.

Please email Lisa Peloso at lpeloso1@yahoo.com if you are interested!

Save the Date for the Night Market: 9/22!

We have a date for next school year’s Night Market: Saturday, September 22.  Mark your calendars now!

Please Donate To The Place Bridge Academy Uniform Drive

Many kids at Place Bridge Academy still need uniforms - can you help?

Place Bridge Academy is a local school that has more than 1,000 students in grades ECE-4 through 8th grade, 98% of who qualify for free or reduced lunch and 85% of who speak a language other than English at home. As a designated newcomer center, more than 60 different languages and over 40 different countries from around the world are represented in the student body.

Since PBA doesn’t have its own parent-teacher organization, DLS is reaching out to help support our neighbors with their needs. The kids at PBA wear uniforms, but many have just one or two that they wear throughout the week. The DLS PTO is continuing to ask for donations of new and used clothing in good condition for ages 4 through 13.

  • Khaki pants
  • Khaki shorts
  • Khaki jumpers
  • Polo shirts - white, navy blue, and baby blue colors only (no logo needed)
  • Athletic shoes in plain colors such as black or grey
  • Winter clothing and outerwear
  • Winter boots

There are collection bins at both DLS West and DLS East. Please make sure all clothing is washed and in good condition prior to drop off, and thank you!

"Wait Until 8th"

The Wait Until 8th pledge is a resource created to help parents delay giving smartphones to kids before they're ready. The pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least 8th grade, with the idea being that, by banding together, there will be less pressure felt by kids and parents alike over the kids having a smartphone.

Most grades have active pledges at DLS. To learn more and sign the pledge, visit www.waituntil8th.org.

Support the Staff Gift Fund!

Through the Staff Gift Fund, the PTO handles the distribution of teacher and staff gifts three times per year (winter holidays, Lunar New Year, and Fiesta Hispanica/end of the year). We still need about $2,000 in contributions to meet our fundraising goal. Please show your appreciation for those who dedicate themselves to your child’s future and donate to the Staff Gift Fund. Recommended donation is $50 per student to the fund, but welcome contributions of any size and we understand that may not be feasible for all families.

You can submit your donation online or bring a check made out to DLS PTO to either campus and put it in the PTO lockbox. Please note on your check that the money is for the Gift Fund. Thanks for supporting our teachers and staff!

Thanks in advance for your support!
